Austere Medic – Jungle Expedition (India)

Train Where Survival Meets Reality

Step beyond the classroom and into the lush wilderness of the Western Ghats. AEMED’s Jungle Medic course blends advanced emergency care training with practical green skills, all delivered in one of India’s most biodiverse and demanding environments. Whether you’re an outdoor educator, expedition medic, or remote-area professional, this course equips you to act decisively and live confidently when resources are limited and help is distant.

Experience the wild heart of the Western Ghats

Embark on an unforgettable journey into the dense rainforests of Agumbe—part of the Western Ghats, one of the world’s eight “hottest hotspots” of biodiversity. Your adventure begins in Hingara, where you’ll plan and prepare for a multi-day expedition into remote jungle terrain. From setting up camp at Akki Rashi Gudda to navigating the rugged paths near Kattina Madikke and Jogi Gundi Falls, you’ll be immersed in the realities of austere medicine. Through realistic medical scenarios—including trauma, tropical illnesses, prolonged field care, and delayed evacuation—you’ll be pushed to think critically and adapt with limited gear. This intensive program integrates hands-on medical training with jungle survival skills, high-stakes decision-making, and expeditionary preparedness. It’s not just about clinical knowledge—it’s about learning to lead, improvise, and provide care when you’re hours or days from help, in one of India’s most unforgiving natural environments.

Jungle Living: Practical Green Skills for Self-Reliance

Participants will develop essential green skills for self-reliance and low-impact living in the unique ecosystem of the Western Ghats. Through hands-on sessions based around the Hingara Homestay and surrounding jungle, learners will master safe and efficient use of the parang (machete) for trail clearing and gathering natural resources. The course covers diverse fire-lighting methods using both local materials and modern tools, alongside shelter-building techniques tailored to the humid monsoon climate—using native vegetation to construct stable, weather-resilient structures.

Water sourcing and filtration is another key focus, with participants learning to find, harvest, and purify water using natural methods and portable systems. Each skill is taught with an emphasis on safety, sustainability, and environmental ethics—ensuring participants not only survive in the wild, but do so with respect for the fragile rainforest ecosystem. These foundational competencies are integrated into the wider context of expedition life and remote operations, making them indispensable for outdoor professionals, medics, and adventurers alike.

Austere Medic Certified by AEMED International

Designed for experienced medics, expedition clinicians, and remote operations leaders, the Jungle Medic course prepares participants to deliver high-quality medical care in the challenging, resource-limited environments of the Indian rainforest. Primarily field-based, this demanding program combines advanced clinical reasoning with scenario-based training that focuses on complex trauma, airway and ventilatory support, prolonged field care, tropical and infectious diseases, and environmental threats such as heat illness, snakebite envenomation, and vector-borne diseases.

Participants engage in dynamic, high-pressure simulations across multiple terrains—from riverine settings to remote jungle clearings—testing their ability to lead, plan, and adapt when traditional systems are out of reach. The curriculum incorporates night operations, multi-casualty incidents, extended care strategies, and creative improvisation under austere conditions. Instead of relying solely on textbook protocols, learners are expected to operate as independent medics—balancing evidence-based knowledge with the unpredictable realities of the field. Graduates earn internationally recognised certification and leave with the skillset and confidence to lead medical care in some of the most demanding environments on the planet.
